The project was launched during PM Irakli Gharibashvili's tenure as Defense Minister. The rifles will contribute to equipping Georgian military units with modern weapons.

The plant intends to expand to export production and modernize other military equipment. Georgian Defense Ministry and Israeli company signed the agreement on production of NATO standard GI-4 rifles in May.
