"Turkey is a special friend of Georgia, and the strategic partnership between our countries is built upon this friendship and deep mutual respect," stated Georgia’s Foreign Minister, Maka Botchorishvili, following her meeting with Turkish Foreign Minister, Hakan Fidan.
Botchorishvili emphasized that "the exemplary neighborly relations and friendship between Turkey and Georgia are further reinforced by ongoing political dialogue."
"First and foremost, I would like to thank you for your steadfast support of my country's sovereignty and territorial integrity. We view Turkey as a vital regional player with a significant role in both global and regional matters. Consequently, it was particularly valuable to hear your perspectives and positions on issues affecting our region. I would also like to underline the importance of Turkey’s support for Georgia's aspirations to join the North Atlantic Alliance," she added.
The Foreign Minister also highlighted that "Turkey has consistently remained Georgia’s top trading partner, a fact that further strengthens the partnership between our nations."
"We discussed several strategic projects of great importance to our region. Notably, we have successfully implemented projects such as the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan Pipeline, the Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum Pipeline, and the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway, all of which have enhanced the roles and functions of our countries. We are committed to continuing our cooperation on future projects," she remarked.
Furthermore, during a joint press conference with her Turkish counterpart, Botchorishvili reiterated Georgia's firm commitment to promoting peaceful coexistence in the South Caucasus, expressing Georgia's readiness to continue contributing to peace and constructive cooperation in the region.
"In light of ongoing security challenges, we also discussed the third anniversary of the war initiated by the Russian Federation against Ukraine, as well as the security environment that threatens the stability of Europe and the Black Sea region. Ending the war and achieving a peace agreement are critical to the security of Europe and, particularly, the future peaceful development of our region," Botchorishvili stated.
Lastly, she extended an invitation to Hakan Fidan to visit Georgia.
