
The First Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia Romeo Mikautadze participated in the annual International Conference on Renewable Energies, which was held this year in Madrid, the capital of Spain. The event was jointly organized by the Spanish Government and the Renewable Energy Policy Network for the 21st Century (REN21).
Romeo Mikautadze made a report at the panel discussion session, where the importance of renewable energies in the process of social and economic development was reviewed.
In his speech, the First Deputy Minister drew attention to such global issues as the challenges and opportunities in the transition to renewable energy-based production, the importance of mobilizing international financial resources for renewable energy projects, and increasing access to clean energy, based on Georgia's experience.
Romeo Mikautadze emphasized the importance of maximum utilization of local renewable energy resources in the process of energy sector transformation. He spoke in detail about the importance of the newly launched support scheme (the auction) for the production and utilization of energy from renewable sources by the Government of Georgia. According to him, the new support mechanism will play a vital role in attracting investments and implementing new projects in the sector. He also drew attention to the development process of the "Green Growth Strategy" launched by the government.
