Former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili commented on the latest charges brought against him in connection with the so-called “Shark Selfie” case, stating that the prosecutors who visited him appeared “very embarrassed.”
“For my part, I protest only the indictment in the ‘Shark Selfie’ case, and not the sanctions, because I have called on my numerous friends in the West to impose sanctions, and I repeat, I will call on them again,” Saakashvili wrote on social media.
Earlier, during a briefing at the Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia, Prosecutor General Giorgi Gvarakidze announced that criminal proceedings had been launched against several political figures, including Mikheil Saakashvili, Giorgi Vashadze, Nika Gvaramia, Nikanor Melia, Zurab Japaridze, Elene Khoshtaria, Mamuka Khazaradze, and Badri Japaridze.
According to the Prosecutor’s Office, it intends to request bail as a preventive measure for Mamuka Khazaradze and Badri Japaridze, while pre-trial hearings will be scheduled for the other defendants in accordance with the legal timeframe.
