The Georgian Embassy in Brazil has issued a safety advisory for Georgian citizens, urging caution in light of the deteriorating security situation in Rio de Janeiro following a large-scale police operation.
“Due to the ongoing law enforcement raids in Rio de Janeiro and the resulting disruptions — including restricted movement, changes to flight schedules, and the closure of public and cultural venues — the Embassy of Georgia in Brazil calls on Georgian citizens to remain cautious and to fully comply with the regulations established by local authorities,” the statement read.
The Embassy also provided an emergency contact number for Georgian nationals in need of assistance: +55 61 3366 1101.
According to Brazil’s state public defender’s office, at least 132 people were killed during Tuesday’s violent police raids targeting drug traffickers in Rio de Janeiro — a number that more than doubles the official police count. Law enforcement confirmed 64 fatalities, including four police officers.
The Embassy continues to monitor developments and advises all Georgian citizens in the affected areas to stay informed and prioritize their safety.
