Mikheil Chkhenkeli thanked Peter Wiebler for the fruitful cooperation and support in terms of Georgia's general education reform. The Minister stressed the importance of the US support as a strategic partner of Georgia for the development of education in the country.
Mikheil Chkhenkeli also spoke about the USAID/Georgia's contribution to the development of vocational education and noted that the new five-year program "Employers for Vocational Education" will further deepen private and public partnerships and significantly strengthen the Vocational Skills Agency.
The Minister stressed that within the framework of vocational education reform, special emphasis will be placed on the internationalization of the system. According to him, at the initiative of the Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Gharibashvili, foreign teachers will be actively involved in the vocational education process, which will facilitate teaching under international standards.
For his part, the USAID/Georgia Mission Director positively assessed the measures taken by the Ministry of Education and Science and noted that the establishment of a Vocational Skills Agency is a significant step forward. He said that strengthening cooperation with the private sector and involving them in the process of creating and implementing vocational education policy is of great importance.
Peter Wiebler spoke about the importance of strengthening the civic education component in Georgian schools and noted that the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is working on a new concept of support in this area, which will be presented to the Ministry in the near future.
The parties also discussed the vaccination of teachers and school administrative staff. Mikheil Chkhenkeli noted that the number of teachers vaccinated in the shortest possible time has increased from 9% to 70% as a result of joint efforts of the Ministry and the United Nations Children's Fund.
