
The Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia Levan Davitashvili met with the Minister of State of the United Arab Emirates, Ahmed Ali Al Sayegh.
The parties discussed the priority areas of trade and economic cooperation between Georgia and the United Arab Emirates. It was noted that the rapprochement of economic relations between the countries was greatly influenced by the comprehensive economic cooperation agreement, which allows Georgian producers to export at a preferential rate.
They also discussed the further development of cooperation in such sectors as tourism, energy, transport, logistics, etc..
Special attention was paid to the Tbilisi Dry Port project, which is a kind of continuation of Batumi and Poti harbors and will connect them with ports and logistics facilities. It was noted that the geopolitical situation created in the region had increased the demand for the middle corridor passing through Georgia, and such logistics projects as the Tbilisi dry port would help attract additional cargoes to the mentioned corridor.
At the meeting, the indicators of the Tbilisi dry port project were discussed, including the annual capacity, which is expected to be up to 200,000 TEU. It was said that the paving of the area, the construction of the office and the Class B warehouse, the mechanization building and the railway had already been completed. The dry port will start operating in the fourth quarter of 2024.
At the end of the meeting, the Ministers once again emphasized the importance of further deepening of partnership relations between the two countries.
