
The Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia Levan Davitashvili met with the Director of the European and North Atlantic (EUR/NAT) Office of the International Civil Aviation Organization, Nicolas Rallo, who is paying a visit to Georgia. The Deputy Minister Mariam Kvrivishvili, The Director of Civil Aviation Agency Givi Davitashvili and Chairman of the Air Navigation Supervisory Board, Head of ICAO European Aviation System Planning Group Levan Karanadze also attended the meeting held at the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development.
Nicolas Rallo thanked Levan Davitashvili for the active, fruitful cooperation of relevant structures and specialists of the Ministry of Economy with ICAO and noted that Georgia had made significant progress in terms of implementing aviation safety standards. According to him, it is important for the country to maintain this progress and reach even higher levels of development, which Georgia really has the potential for. "Georgia has a great potential to become a regional leader,” - Nicolas Rallo said.
At the meeting, Levan Davitashvili emphasized the activities carried out by the efforts of the Georgian government both in terms of increasing the safety of civil aviation and harmonizing aviation legislation with European legislation. According to him, in the post-pandemic period, not only the dynamics of the restoration of flights, but also the intensity of work on introducing new airlines and adding new destinations is growing.
Levan Davitashvili and Nicolas Rallo also discussed the digitization of the aviation sector and the so-called opportunities for the development of green aviation. The parties noted that Georgia's participation in the process of gradual implementation of the ICAO carbon dioxide compensation and reduction scheme was very important.
