
“The Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia Levan Davitashvili met with the new Ambassador of Bulgaria to Georgia Vesselin Valkanov. The Deputy Economy Minister Genadi Arveladze also attended the meeting,” - the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture of Georgia reported.
As reported, the economic relations between Georgia and Bulgaria were discussed at the meeting, special attention was paid to the priority areas such as bilateral trade, transport, communications, etc.
It was noted that Bulgaria unwaveringly supports Georgia's integration into European and Euro-Atlantic structures. Moreover, Bulgaria is the fourth EU member state (following Romania, Lithuania, Latvia) to ratify the Association Agreement between the EU and Georgia.
Fruitful cooperation between the countries in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic was also emphasized. The meeting focused on the expansion of trade between Georgia and Bulgaria. In 2021, Bulgaria entered the list of the top ten trade partners of the country. The same trend continued in 2022, during which trade turnover increased by 63%, and exports by 85%. According to this indicator, Bulgaria is the fourth country in a row, where Georgia exported the most.
It was noted that Georgia welcomes the development of cooperation between the businesses of the two countries and the attraction of investments from Bulgaria. At the meeting, land and sea transport was named as another priority direction, where there is also a great potential for cooperation between the countries. The role of Bulgaria as an important partner country in terms of connectivity was emphasized.
The Georgian Economy Minister wished success to the new Ambassador of Bulgaria in his diplomatic activities in Georgia.
