The National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat) has published the updated statistics of the economic growth in 2021. According to the report, last year the economy of Georgia grew by 10.5%, this indicator is 0.1 percentage points (10.4%) higher than the preliminary estimate of Geostat.
According to the updated data, the volume of gross domestic product in 2021 at current prices equaled GEL 60,003.3 million, which is 21.8% higher than the corresponding figure of the previous year. The growth of real gross domestic product in 2021 compared to the previous year amounted to 10.5%. The percentage change in the GDP deflator as of 2021 was set at 10.3%.
In addition, the Geostat noted that “wholesale and retail trade has the largest share in the sectoral structure of the gross domestic product; repair of automobiles and motorcycles (15.4 %) and processing industry (11.3 %). Further positions are occupied by activities related to real estate (10.2 %), construction (7.5 %), rural forestry and fish farming (7.4%), public administration and defense; compulsory social security (6.5%), transport and warehousing (6.3%), financial and insurance activities (5.2%), health and social service activities (4.8%) and education (4.7%).
As explained by the Geostat, in 2021 compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, the following sectors made a significant contribution to the economic growth: wholesale and retail trade; automobile and motorcycle repair (12.4 %), transportation and warehousing (28.9 %), arts entertainment and recreation (47.2 %), health and social service activities (29.3 %), finance and insurance activities (21.2 %), supply of electricity gas steam and conditioned air (44.4 %), real estate related activities (8.7%), information and communication (30.1 percent), accommodation and food service activities (34.0%). A decrease was noted in the field of construction (-23.9 %).
