The ruling Georgian Dream party has officially nominated Kakha Kaladze as its candidate for Tbilisi mayor in the upcoming local self-government elections, scheduled for October 4.
The announcement was made during a special event held at Mtatsminda Park, where Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze formally introduced Kaladze as the party’s nominee. The event was also attended by Georgian Dream’s honorary chairman, Bidzina Ivanishvili.
“Today, we could have nominated just a good politician, an experienced administrator, or a committed patriot. But instead, we are nominating a true champion – in both the literal and figurative sense of the word,” said Prime Minister Kobakhidze, praising Kaladze’s leadership and public service.
Kaladze, a former professional footballer and national team captain, is seeking a third consecutive term as mayor. He was first elected in 2017 and re-elected in 2021. His candidacy signals the ruling party’s continued confidence in his leadership of Georgia’s capital.
