
Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia Genadi Arveladze, who is paying an official visit to the USA, met with the Managing Director of US International Development Finance Corporation, Carlos DeJuana. Georgian Ambassador to the USA Davit Zalkaliani also participated in the meeting.
Priority areas of economic cooperation between the two countries were discussed. At the meeting, it was noted that the USA was the main strategic partner of Georgia, and through such organizations as the US International Development Finance Corporation (DFC), a range of fields in the country including health care, tourism, logistics, production, the development of renewable energy sources and others, had received funding and support.
The meeting focused on the opening of the DFC regional office in Georgia. The Deputy Minister once again expressed his readiness to continue cooperation on the opening of the mentioned office in Georgia. At the meeting, special emphasis was placed on the Black Sea submarine cable project, which will connect the energy systems of Georgia and the European Union and significantly increase the energy independence of the country.
Genadi Arveladze also spoke about the Tbilisi Silk Road Forum would be held in capital Tbilisi between October 26-27, in the first edition since the Covid-19 pandemic, to review “factors defining regional and global trade and connectivity”, and pointed out that the the US International Development Finance Corporation’s “high-level involvement” in the Forum would be “crucial”.
