
The Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia Guram Guramishvili met with the Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union, Houlin Zhao (ITU). The meeting was held within the framework of the World Summit on the Information Society in Geneva, Switzerland (WSIS FORUM 2022), with the participation of the Georgian delegation.
The meeting focused on Georgia's participation in the events organized under the auspices of the International Telecommunication Union, as well as the projects and programs ongoing in Georgia aimed at developing the country's digital economy, communications infrastructure and innovative ecosystems.
The head of the Georgian delegation Guram Guramishvili informed the Secretary General of the ITU about the current project of construction of broadband Internet infrastructure in Georgia, which is crucial for the development of the digital economy in the country. According to him, one of the priorities of Georgia's economic policy is to establish the country as a transit hub for digital services.
Houlin Zhao, the Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union, praised the activities of Georgia at the events organized by the ITU and noted initiatives by Georgian professionals that contributed to the development of the telecommunications space in the region.
The Georgian delegation also held meetings with the director of the Telecommunication Standardisation Bureau and with the heads of administrations of foreign countries, the Ministry said.
The World Summit on the Information Society Forum represents the world's largest annual gathering of the ICT for industry professionals.
