
The Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia Guram Guramishvili took part in the event of the completion of the Twinning project Support to approximation of Georgian legal and institutional framework to the Union in the field of railway transport".
In his speech, the Deputy Minister talked about the current trends in the railway sector of Georgia and focused on the current railway reform, the main task of which is to create a new normative base in accordance with the European Union directives and the formation of an institutional framework in the direction of railway safety and industry regulation. According to him, the TWINNING project will make a significant contribution to the effective implementation of the railway reform and the further fulfillment of the obligations under the Association Agreement.
As a result of the successful implementation of the first phase of the reform of the railway transport sector, a regulatory safety authority for railway transport will be created, and at the same time, a component for the investigation of railway incidents and cases will be added to the investigation bureau in the system of the Ministry of Economy.
As part of the project, 56 missions, 4 study visits and 3 internships were carried out in various Polish railway institutions. The main goal of the project was to bring the railway transport sector in Georgia closer to the European Union legislation and relevant standards and to promote the strengthening of the railway sector in this direction.
The event was attended by senior officials of the European Union Delegation to Georgia, the Embassy of Poland, the Ministry of Infrastructure of Poland, the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, JSC Georgian Railway, as well as TWINNING project leaders and key experts from both Georgia and Poland.
