In July, the export of blueberries to Georgia increased again. As East Fruit writes, due to the sharp increase in shipments, this season turned out to be a record-breaking year.
In July 2022, 0.9 thousand tons of blueberries were exported from Georgia - twice as much as in July of the previous year. In just two months (June-July), the country exported 1.4 thousand tons of blueberries, which was worth 8.1 million dollars in total. These numbers are 45% more than those reported in the previous season.
As a rule, almost the entire share of blueberries is exported to Russia, this year's season was no exception. In addition to Russia, a small part of the product was sent to Europe, the United Arab Emirates and Armenia.
Record exports have caused a drop in prices for blueberries. In July 2022, Georgian farmers received an average of $2.75 per kilogram, which was about $2 less than the previous year.
Price declines are not reflected in trade data. One of the reasons for setting high prices of exporters is the increase in the cost of transport. Thus, the value of exports is somewhat exceeded due to the increased costs.
