Georgian bank statistics show $17 bln loaned and deposited in August

Commercial banks in Georgia loaned GEL 48.02 billion ($17,855 bln) and received deposits of GEL48.06 billion ($17,870 bln) in August, the latest data from the National Bank of Georgia shows.
The volume of loans increased by 0.47 percent compared to the previous month, while the number of deposits increased by 0.58 percent month-on-month.
In August, the volume of term deposits increased by 5.11 percent while on-demand deposits decreased by 2.23 percent, the NBG also said.
Loans taken out in the national currency amounted to GEL 7.68 billion ($2.855 bln), while loans in foreign currencies constituted GEL13.37 billion ($4.971 bln).
