
“The Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture of Georgia Otar Shamugia met with the Regional Coordinator of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), Mahir Aliyev,’ - the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture of Georgia reported.
"At the meeting, the parties discussed the current and future projects within the framework of cooperation between the Ministry and UNEP and reviewed the priority directions. The Agriculture Minister of Georgia emphasized the importance of active involvement of international and donor organizations in the process of introducing environmental standards and mitigation of climate change in the country.
At the meeting, Otar Shamugia also spoke about the support of UNEP in the process of implementing the project on restoring and spreading endemic varieties of Meskhurian vine and Georgian wheat in Samtskhe-Javakheti region.
The Regional Coordinator of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) focused on the importance of the public involvement and awareness raising in the process of introducing the Sustainable Public Procurement (SPP) approaches and regulations to Georgia as part of the EU4Environment program.
Additionally, in the direction of solid waste management, Mahir Aliyev expressed his desire to share experience in the process of implementing the strategy and action plan (2022-2026) of waste management in the country.
The meeting was attended by the Deputy Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture of Georgia Nino Tandilashvili, the Director of the Environmental Protection Center Tamar Aladashvili and the representatives of the relevant agencies included in the Ministry's system," - the Ministry reported.
