
Within the framework of the visit to the State of Qatar, the Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture of Georgia Otar Shamugia met with the Minister of Environment and Climate Change of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Faleh Bin Nasser Bin Ahmad Al Thani.
At the meeting, the parties discussed the importance of implementing environmental measures against the background of risks caused by climate change.
"Otar Shamugia spoke in detail about the strategic vision of the Georgian government in the mentioned direction and focused on the measures implemented in the environmental direction. According to the Minister, the government of Georgia has taken important steps to improve air quality, preserve biodiversity, manage water resources, expand protected areas, manage waste and other areas. At the end of the meeting, the parties signed a memorandum, which envisages deepening cooperation in water resources, air quality monitoring and control, biodiversity, implementation of joint environmental projects and programs in the direction of mitigating risks caused by climate change.
The Minister of Environment and Climate Change of Qatar thanked Otar Shamugia for his visit to the State of Qatar and said that the memorandum developed between the agencies in the field of environmental protection had taken the existing cooperation to a new stage. The Minister expressed hope that the mentioned memorandum would contribute to the implementation of joint projects.
“Sharing experience between the parties, conducting joint research will contribute to the development of relations not only in the field of environmental protection, but will also make a significant contribution to the deepening of close cooperation between the two countries," Otar Shamugia said at the meeting.
The meeting was attended by the Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture of Georgia and the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Georgia to the State of Qatar, Nikoloz Revazishvili.
