
The Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture of Georgia Otar Shamugia met with the head of the regional program of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Europe and Central Asia, Raimund Jehle.
Otar Shamugia thanked the UN Food and Agriculture Organization for cooperation and active support in the process of obtaining the status of a candidate for the EU membership of Georgia and emphasized the importance of strengthening coordination and cooperation with the FAO.
The Minister spoke about the importance of fulfilling the obligations under the association agreement with the European Union. Attention was drawn to the importance of the FAO's expert support for the development and implementation of a number of food regulations. At the meeting, the issues of support for the aquaculture and nut sectors were also discussed.
According to Raimund Jehle, Georgia is an important partner of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization. The FAO will continue to support Georgia's agricultural sector and food security.
The meeting was attended by Georgia’s First Deputy Minister Giorgi Khanishvili, Deputy Minister Nino Tandilashvili, Deputy Representative of FAO Mamuka Meskhi and representatives of the Ministry's relevant service.
