
Georgian Defence Minister Irakli Chikovani participated in the Azerbaijan–Türkiye–Georgia Trilateral Defence Ministerial held in Ankara, the Ministry of Defence has reported.
During the meeting, Minister Chikovani met with his Turkish and Azerbaijani counterparts, Yaşar Güler and Colonel General Zakir Hasanov, to discuss the ongoing strategic partnership among the three countries. The ministers reviewed plans to further strengthen trilateral cooperation, particularly in defence and regional security.
“The Minister emphasised that the Azerbaijan–Türkiye–Georgia trilateral format fosters closer ties and enhances interoperability among the three nations’ armed forces,” the Ministry's statement noted. “He highlighted the positive momentum achieved through joint military exercises and education initiatives.”
The ministers also assessed the regional security landscape, underscoring the importance of this trilateral platform in promoting peace, stability, and defence collaboration. They exchanged views on defence reforms and shared perspectives on security challenges.
The meeting concluded with the signing of a joint declaration reaffirming their commitment to deepening cooperation. Minister Chikovani also held separate bilateral meetings with both Turkish and Azerbaijani defence officials.
The trilateral defence ministerial is held annually on a rotating basis. According to the Defence Ministry, Azerbaijan is set to host next year’s gathering.
