"Georgia still firmly maintain a strong economic growth in 2022," – the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, Levan Davitashvili told the media while evaluating the preliminary data published by the National Statistics Office of Georgia (GEOSTAT). According to the preliminary data of GEOSTAT, the economic growth rate in May 2022 amounted to 11.6%, and the average growth of January-May was determined by 11.2%.
"It is important to note that we had a 26% economic growth in the month of May last year, so not only April 2021 was characterized by the economic growth of more than 40%. Accordingly, in these circumstances, maintaining such a high economic growth rate during the second year and the results of the current year within 5 months, when we have achieved a double-digit growth of more than 11%, it is a very important consequence," - Levan Davitashvili noted.
According to the Minister, these data are encouraging for the economic growth forecast, even in the perspective of the year, to be revised later.
Based on the preliminary assessment of GEOSTAT, the dynamics of a double-digit economic growth will continue in May 2022, which is especially noteworthy in light of the fact that a high (25.8%) increase in the economic growth was recorded in May of the previous year. The economic growth rate in May 2022 amounted to 11.6%, while the average growth rate for January-May was determined by 11.2%.
