Georgia is starting the negotiations on a free trade agreement with the United Arab Emirates. The Georgian side is scheduled to host the government-level delegation in Tbilisi already this month.
As the Head of the Division of Foreign Trade of the Ministry of Economy Marina Macharashvili stated, the goods that would enter the large consumer market after signing the agreement with a zero tariff had already been identified.
"At the current stage, the process of holding negotiations on a free trade agreement with the United Arab Emirates, which is planned for the last week of September, is in the most relevant phase. We are waiting for the delegation of the United Arab Emirates and we hope that the negotiation process will go well.
We have already identified the products that are in demand from the mentioned country. For example, livestock products (sheep, goat) are of interest, and there is a great interest in nuts, honey, fruit juices and canned products. In the same way, they will probably be studied; we are waiting for suggestions on what type of products they want to open the market for," - explained the Head of the Division of Foreign Trade of the Ministry of Economy Marina Macharashvili.
According to her, the feasibility study with Israel has already been completed and the parties will move to the negotiation stage after the relevant memorandum is signed at the governmental level meetings.
As for India, as Marina Macharashvili stated, the situation is relatively difficult, because the round of negotiations, which was planned for May 2020, was prevented by the pandemic and the process was postponed.
"After that, the parties are trying to agree on the date of the start of negotiations, and in this regard, the consultations are now underway," – Macharashvili said.
