Sunflower oil in Georgia may become cheaper again. The reason for this may be the decrease in the export tax in Georgia's top trading partner by sunflower oil import - Russia. As is known, the export tax on Russian sunflower oil has been reduced by 19.8% since May 1.
In January 2023, 1,762 tons of oil worth $2.373 million were imported from Russia, and in March - 2,953 tons worth $3.654 million. As for the total indicator, in the first quarter of 2023, Georgia bought 6,510 tons of oil worth $8,477 million (average price per ton of $1,302), and in the same period of 2022, it purchased 2,426 tons of products worth $3,789 million (average price of $1,561 per ton).
In addition, in January-March 2023, sunflower oil was imported to Georgia from 11 countries of the world. The share of Russian oil in the total import volume was 93.7%.
