In the first 11 months of 2024, Georgia exported 25,140 tons of tangerines valued at USD 14.9 million, reflecting a 47.2% increase in value and an 84.7% increase in quantity compared to the same period last year. Russia remains the dominant market, accounting for 77% of Georgia's citrus fruit exports.
Tangerine exports to Russia surged by 108.2%. Specifically, Georgia exported over 18,000 tons of tangerines worth $11.5 million to Russia, compared to 8,487 tons valued at $5.5 million during the same period in 2023.
The top five destination countries for Georgia's tangerine exports are as follows:
- Russia: 18,026 tons worth $11.5 million
- Armenia: 6,608 tons worth $3.8 million
- Ukraine: 340.1 tons worth $223 thousand
- Belarus: 40.4 tons worth $39.1 thousand
- Azerbaijan: 84.4 tons worth $33.7 thousand
It is important to note that, in early December, Russia imposed a ban on tangerine imports from the occupied region of Abkhazia.
