The acclaimed British publication The Independent has listed Georgia among the best tourist destinations for 2026. The Georgian translation of the ranking is being released by the National Tourism Administration.
According to the publication’s travel expert, Lauren Taylor, Georgia is steadily gaining popularity among travelers. The country appears alongside destinations such as Mallorca, the USA, and South Korea in the Independent’s travel list.
“EasyJet began flights from London to Tbilisi this year, and the Eastern European country is attracting more and more travelers. New flights scheduled from 2026 will further boost accessibility,” the article notes.
The piece highlights Tbilisi’s attractions, including its parks, historic cobbled streets, and famous sulphur baths. Beyond the capital, visitors can explore ancient monasteries and cathedrals, including the UNESCO-listed Gelati Monastery in Kutaisi.
Tom Barber, co-founder of a major travel company, praised the country: “Tbilisi boasts grand, wide boulevards and cobbled streets in a historic old town, as well as some famous sulphur baths, and outside the capital, there are ancient monasteries and cathedrals, including the UNESCO-anointed Gelati Monastery in Kutaisi. Everyone we send to Georgia comes back saying it’s just amazing. They’ve got incredible food and the oldest wine making industry in the world” – said to date back 8,000 years”
