Georgia marks the Independence Day today. In connection with this day, the Government of Georgia has planned various events throughout the country.
The list of the events planned by the Government Administration is given below:
11:00 - Exhibition spaces will be opened at Rustaveli Avenue and in 16 cities;
12:00 – An oath ceremony to be held at Liberty Square;
20:30 – A concert to be held at Republic Square.
Some musical and theatrical performances and historical exhibitions are also planned and the corners of the Georgian-folk traditions and sports activities will be arranged.
In addition, competitions, children's performances and exhibition sales will be organized.
The swearing-in ceremony will take place in five regions: in Kakheti (the Mataani village); Poti (the port); Khevsureti (at the Gudan Cross); Dmanisi; Guria (the Shemokmedi village).
On May 26, 1918, the National Council of Georgia adopted the Act of Independence and the First Democratic Republic of Georgia was established. The Democratic Republic of Georgia ceased to exist in February 1921 as a result of the occupation of the country’s territories by Soviet Russia. The country regained its independence after the collapse of the Soviet Union in the early 1990s.
