The State Services Development Agency under Georgia’s Ministry of Justice has begun issuing redesigned, next-generation biometric passports and electronic residence certificates for Georgian citizens, effective October 6.
According to the Agency, the newly introduced documents incorporate advanced security features and modern protective elements that meet international standards. Their design also features national symbols that reflect Georgia’s cultural heritage.
Importantly, the Agency emphasized that fees remain unchanged and that current document holders are not required to replace their existing documents.
In addition to biometric passports and residence certificates, several other identification and travel documents will feature the updated design:
Temporary and permanent electronic residence certificates
Diplomatic and service passports
Travel documents for individuals with refugee status
Travel passports for stateless persons with legal status in Georgia
Citizens can apply for the new documents at:
State Services Development Agency offices
House of Justice branches
Mobile justice units
Online at sda.gov.ge
The Agency also announced that electronic identity cards will begin issuance on November 3, 2025.
