The Ministry of Infrastructure’s Municipal Development Fund has announced a design competition for the renovation of the maritime coastal zones in Ganmukhuri and Anaklia, located in Zugdidi Municipality.
According to the Ministry, the project aims to fully revitalize a 66.5-hectare stretch of coastline, transforming it into a year-round, multifunctional recreational space. The development will include infrastructure for leisure, sports, and cultural activities, with a strong focus on environmental sustainability and accessibility.
Key features of the planned coastal zone include:
-
Functional zones for children’s playgrounds, educational and cultural spaces, sports fields, and workout areas.
-
Pedestrian and cycling paths, as well as integrated parking that aligns with the overall landscape.
-
New constructions such as an open-air stage, a decorative lake, and a pedestrian bridge linking Ganmukhuri and Anaklia.
-
Commercial and educational areas, pergolas, accessible public sanitary facilities, open showers, fountains, and seating zones.
Comprehensive infrastructure upgrades will also be made, including the installation of:
-
Outdoor lighting
-
Irrigation systems
-
Water and electricity supply
-
Sewage and drainage systems
-
Safety and security systems
Environmental considerations will be central to the project, with plans for landscaping using local plant species, promoting biodiversity, incorporating waste separation systems, and exploring renewable energy options.
“The result will be a safe, sustainable, and vibrant coastal zone that offers comfortable recreation and social opportunities for both locals and visitors,” the Ministry stated.
