“I wondered why Senator McCain set up this conference in Georgia, because every year we have a confrontation with our own conscience. Because Georgia is the result of the greatest western appeasement policy, spinelessness - hugging the evil and the devil after what they did in Georgia,” said the member of the Lithuanian Parliament, Žygimantas Pavilionis, at the ongoing international conference in Tbilisi - "Defeat Putinism!".
According to him, if the opinion of the Americans and Lithuanians had been taken into account at the Bucharest summit, neither Georgia nor Ukraine would be occupied now.
"No occupation in Georgia, no occupation in Ukraine, no negotiations, but this future was rejected. So I'm going to be very blunt and say: if we continue with this strategy, the strategy of not having a strategy, if we continue with this policy of appeasement towards Russia, we better not celebrate the future of NATO at the NATO summit in Washington, because that will only be a celebration of the past and I don't see many bright spots in the past, to be honest, because what we did from Bucharest to Vilnius is a shame. It's a shame, because instead of creating a common and free Europe, instead of fighting for the values written in our constitutions, in the NATO treaty, we just appeased Russia," said Pavilionis.
