At the 69th General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), held in Vienna from September 15–19, 2025, Georgia reaffirmed its strong support for the Agency’s mission to promote the safe, secure, and peaceful use of nuclear technology.
Delivering a statement on behalf of Georgia, Deputy Foreign Minister Lasha Darsalia emphasized the strategic importance of nuclear security in the Black Sea region, underscoring its relevance to international peace and stability.
Darsalia also raised concerns over the lack of international oversight in Georgia’s Russian-occupied regions of Abkhazia and Tskhinvali (South Ossetia), calling it a serious challenge to regional nuclear security.
He concluded by reiterating Georgia’s full commitment to the IAEA’s mandate and its readiness to cooperate with all Member States in advancing global peace and security.
