“The construction of an additional lane and a taxiing pitch at the Tbilisi International Airport has been completed. The Deputy Prime Minister/Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia Levan Davitashvili took part in the official opening of the new infrastructure,” - the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia reports.
As a result of the reconstruction works carried out at the airport, the main airport of the country will be able to receive larger aircraft.
According to the Minister, Georgia has the potential for the Tbilisi International Airport to play the role of a cargo hub.
The new infrastructure of the airport is equipped with a modern signal system, which is necessary for the complete and proper functioning of the airport and its runways. As a result, the capacity and safety of the runway of the Tbilisi Airport have significantly increased.
The project included the arrangement of a high-strength artificial pavement for an area of 26,000 sq.m. In total, the Airport currently has six runways/maneuvering paths.
Reconstruction works were provided by Sakaeronavigatsia Ltd. of the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia and TAV Georgia, the airport management company.
