“Georgia has no stronger partner than the United States. I think we have shown that over the last 30 years,” - the US Ambassador to Georgia Kelly Degnan said while answering questions of citizens.
According to her, a strong democracy and a strong society are the best defense against an autocracy like Russia.
“Everything that we do here in Georgia is tied to three key objectives. One, helping Georgia be stronger and more secure, better able to defend your borders and deter aggression from aggressive neighbors like Russia, to help you grow your economy so that there's more opportunity, including in the regions, and more prosperity for all Georgians here in the country, so people don't feel like they have to leave Georgia, so that they have a prosperous future. And the last one is helping Georgia build its democratic institutions, because there's the clear choice of the Georgian people to live in a democracy, to be part of the European Union and NATO, be part of the Euro-Atlantic family of nations. So everything the United States does in Georgia is tied to one of those three, or maybe all three of those. We firmly believe that the best defense against Russian aggression is a strong democracy. Of course, investing in the Georgian defense forces and other security institutions is very important. But when you have a strong democracy, when you have a strong society, that is the best defense in our view against an autocracy like Russia.
So I will say that I'm confident in a very positive future between Georgia and the United States. We will continue to work for Georgia’s success because we believe in Georgia, we believe in the people of Georgia. And your dream to be part of the Euro-Atlantic family of nations, we want to help you make that dream come true”, US Ambassador to Georgia Kelly Degnan said.
