
The Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic derailment of Lisbon’s iconic Glória Funicular railway.
“We are deeply saddened by the tragic derailment of Lisbon’s Glória Funicular railway,” the Ministry stated in an official message posted on the X platform.
The statement extended condolences to the victims’ families and the people of Portugal:
“Our heartfelt condolences go to Portugal and to the families of the victims in this time of grief, and we wish a swift recovery to the injured.”
According to emergency services, at least 15 people have lost their lives and 18 others have been injured in the incident. Five of the injured are reported to be in serious condition, while the remaining 13 — including a child — sustained minor injuries.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
In response to the tragedy, the Portuguese government has declared September 4 a Day of Mourning.
