Despite the problems created in the car market, lightweight cars are still in the leading position in the top ten export (at the expense of re-export) products of Georgia. Passenger cars occupy the third position in the export basket with a share of 10.5%.
According to the data published by the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat), in January-June 2022, lightweight cars worth of $269,312,200 were exported from Georgia, which is 31.1% more than those exported in January-June 2021.
Georgia exported 48% of passenger cars to Azerbaijan, which is leading among Georgia’s main export partners. In total, in January-June, cars worth of $12,928,785 were exported from the country to Azerbaijan. Ukraine ranks 2nd with $32,640,260, and Kazakhstan ranks 3rd with $29 804 750.
It is worth noting that the rate of car exports from Georgia to Ukraine has decreased by almost 45% (with the earnings from $32,898,380 to $25,742,460) after Russia's invasion of Ukraine, that is, in March-June 2022, compared to January-June 2021.
