In January-July, Georgia spent a total of $648 thousand to buy 59 tons of caviar. Out of this, $44 thousand was spent on sturgeon caviar, and the rest - on caviar substitutes - salmon and other caviar.
In 7 months of 2023, the value of the caviar import was $711 thousand and the volume was up to 42 tons. That is, in the same period of 2024, the value of imports decreased, while the volume increased, which means that the price of caviar in the import markets became higher.
Georgia buys caviar from the following main countries:
China - $239 thousand, 11 tons;
Russia - $191 thousand, 24 tons;
Belarus - $105 thousand, 20 tons;
Poland - $38 thousand, 2 tons;
France - $23 thousand - mostly sturgeon caviar.
It should be noted that the export volume of caviar for this period is even smaller than the import and slightly exceeds 1 ton. Totally, caviar worth $287,000 was exported from Georgia in January-July, while in the same period of 2023, the export was only $53,000. Georgia exported caviar to Australia ($187 thousand), Canada ($33 thousand), Singapore ($32 thousand), the USA ($23 thousand) and - in insignificant volumes - to Hong Kong, Thailand and Malaysia.
