Starting from January 1, 2024, the import of cars produced before 2013 in Georgia will be prohibited. According to the Prime Minister of Georgia, the reason for the adoption of the law is the high level of air pollution.
"We are all concerned about the air pollution-related problem. I would like to remind the public that we have imposed restrictions on fuel imports for several years and Euro 5 standard fuel is imported into Georgia. Of course, this issue is constantly monitored by the National Environment Agency of Georgia.
As you know, this is directly related to the improvement of air quality and it has a positive impact on the health of the population. We discussed and decided to introduce the Euro 5 standard for cars to the country. In practice, this means that the import of cars produced before 2013 will be limited. The decision will not refer to the cars already existing in the country, as well as those brought to for the purpose of re-export and transit," - Gharibashvili said.
