
Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili met with Johari Abdul, Speaker of the Lower House of Malaysia, during his visit to Geneva for the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) conference.
The two leaders discussed strengthening inter-parliamentary cooperation in key areas such as trade, the economy, tourism, and education. They also exchanged views on the role and activities of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
Speaker Johari Abdul expressed interest in further engagement with Georgia and invited the Georgian parliamentary delegation to participate in the ASEAN General Assembly, scheduled to take place in Malaysia this September.
Papuashvili congratulated Malaysia on assuming the ASEAN chairmanship and extended his best wishes for a successful term.
Alongside Nikoloz Samkharadze, Chair of the Foreign Relations Committee, Speaker Papuashvili held a series of high-level meetings with parliamentary leaders from various countries on the sidelines of the IPU conference.
