At the 58th Annual Meeting of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), Georgia and the ADB signed a loan agreement worth approximately €98 million for the “Energy Saving and Green Hydrogen Gas Development Project.”
The agreement was formalized by Georgia’s Finance Minister Lasha Khutsishvili and ADB Country Director Lesley Bearman Lahm.
The project aims to install a climate-resilient battery energy storage system (BESS) at the Ksani substation, assess green hydrogen development potential, provide hands-on training in BESS operations, and transfer technical know-how to the Georgian State Electrosystem (GSE).
This initiative is expected to enhance the sustainability, flexibility, and reliability of Georgia’s power system, improve electricity quality, and boost the country’s energy security and independence.
