
According to Geostat, the exports equaled USD 4 242.3 million (26.9% higher), while the imports stood at USD 10 073.3 million (25.1 percent higher). The negative trade balance was USD 5 831.0 million in 2021 and its share in external trade turnover constituted 40.7%.
In 2021 the share of the top ten trading partners by exports in the total exports of Georgia amounted to 77.3%. The top partners were China (USD 615.6 million), Russia (USD 610.0 million) and Azerbaijan (USD 531.7 million).
In 2021 the share of the top ten trading partners by imports in the total imports of Georgia amounted to 67.1%. The top partners were Turkey (USD 1 823.7 million), Russia (USD 1 028.6 million) and China (USD 864.9 million).
As for commodity groups, in 2021 copper ores and concentrates reclaimed the first place in the list of top export items, equaling USD 815.4 million with 19.2$ of total exports. The exports of ferro-alloys totaled USD 477.4 million and their share in the total exports amounted to 11.3%. The motor cars exports occupied the third place standing at USD 456.6 million and constituting 10.8% of the total exports.
The top import commodities in 2021 were motor cars whose imports equaled USD 898.8 million (8.9% of the total imports). The petroleum and petroleum oils followed in the list with USD 822.6 million (8.2% of imports). The copper ores and concentrates were third in the top import commodity list with USD 736.1 million (7.3% of imports).
