Georgia’s December inflation reaches 2.4% with EU methodology

The National Statistics Office of Georgia reported that the domestic inflation rate for December, calculated using the European Union methodology, stood at 2.4 percent. This figure was 0.5 percent higher than the rate calculated using the national methodology, which recorded inflation at 1.9 percent.
The Office provided a detailed breakdown of inflation rates, based on the EU Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices methodology, for various categories compared to the same period in 2023:
- Food and non-alcoholic beverages: 3.1%
- Alcoholic beverages and tobacco: 6.1%
- Clothing and shoes: 1.8%
- Housing, water, electricity, gas, and other heating: -2.8%
- Furniture, household items and decorations, home care, and repair: 1.5%
- Healthcare: 4.4%
- Transport: 1.4%
- Communication: -12.3%
- Leisure, entertainment, and culture: 2.3%
- Education: 5.4%
- Hotels, cafés, and restaurants: 8.7%
- Various goods and services: 6.1%
The Office began publishing inflation figures using the EU methodology in 2022.
