Zaal Kapanadze, Director of the Regulation Agency, stressed the importance of introducing a quality standard to the country, noting that the GMP [Good Manufacturing Practice]/GDP standard ensures high quality of circulating pharmaceutical products and also increases the country's export potential.
GDP Certificate has been issued for the first time in Georgia this year and at this stage it is owned by 2 pharmaceutical companies. Also, one pharmaceutical company holds a GMP - or Certificate of Good Manufacturing Practice.
In 2022, the transition to the GMP/GDP standard will become mandatory for all pharmaceutical companies and wholesale distributors. The Regulation Agency for Medical and Pharmaceutical Activities is currently studying 14 applications.
By introducing the GMP/GDP standard, Georgia recognizes the EU standards for quality control of pharmaceutical products.
