
In January-July 2023, the volume of gas import to Georgia increased by 18% annually. According to the data published by the National Statistics Office of Georgia (GEOSTAT), if the country bought gas worth $237.331 million in 7 months of the current year, this year the volume of imported natural gas amounted to $280.423 million.
It should be noted that Georgia buys gas from only 2 countries - Russia and Azerbaijan. According to the GEOSTAT data, this year imports from Russia have increased by 154.6%, while imports from Azerbaijan have decreased by 4%. More specifically, in January-July 2023, Georgia bought gas worth $83.541 million from Russia, while in the same period of the previous year it was only $32.809 million. As for Azerbaijan, imports here decreased from $204.522 million to $196.881 million.
Azerbaijan remains the main supplier of natural gas to Georgia. It occupies 70.2% of total imports. However, last year this figure was 86%.
