Former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili, currently imprisoned, extended his congratulations to Mzia Amaglobeli and Andrzej Poczbut on being awarded the Sakharov Prize.

“I extend my congratulations to Mzia Amaglobeli and Andrzej Poczbut on receiving the Sakharov Prize,” Saakashvili wrote on social media, calling the honour a triumph for all of Georgia.

“Mzia Amaglobeli embodies the spirit of peaceful resistance. This award is a victory for our entire nation,” he added.

Earlier today, Mzia Amaglobeli was announced as a recipient of the 2025 Sakharov Prize, following her nomination by the European People’s Party (EPP).
