Former President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili has been discharged from the Vivamedi Clinic and transferred back to Penitentiary Institution No. 12, the Special Penitentiary Service announced in an official statement.
According to the agency, Saakashvili was admitted to the Vivamedi Clinic on May 12, 2022, for inpatient medical treatment and had remained there under medical supervision since then.
“In accordance with Georgian legislation, the transfer of a patient from a civilian hospital back to a penitentiary institution is carried out based on the medical opinion of the treating doctor, taking into account the patient’s health condition,” the statement noted.
The service added that Saakashvili’s current health condition is deemed satisfactory, and he no longer requires inpatient medical care. Consequently, he has been discharged from the clinic and returned to Penitentiary Institution No. 12, where he will continue serving his sentence under standard conditions.
