With the support of the Georgian National Tourism Administration, for the first time in Georgia, the presentation of the global hiking project HIGHLANDER was held. The organizers of the project, as part of the HIGHLANDER preparatory campaign, introduced the plans to those interested in the trek in order to encourage potential "highlanders". "HIGHLANDER Adventure" is a global long-distance hiking project that takes place in different countries around the world. The project will be organized for the first time this year in Svaneti, Georgia. The hike will take place on August 25-27 from Becho to Ushgul. Hundreds of local and foreign hikers will take part in the event.
At the event, the speakers talked about the contribution of international donors to the development of sustainable mining tourism, the role of HIGHLANDER Georgia, as well as the presentation of Svaneti at the local and international level. Thomas Müller, Ambassador of Austria to Georgia, as well as Riccardo Montanari, the head of the GRETA project group, Shalva Gogoladze, Vice President of the International Foundation for Sports, Tourism and Youth, Tamar Koriauli, the First Deputy Head of the National Tourism Administration of Georgia, and Tevdore Makashvili, the project director of HIGHLANDER Georgia, addressed the public.
As part of the presentation, the speakers completed a demonstrative registration to participate in the HIGHLANDER trek.
Within the framework of the event, the guests organized a hike from the Ethnographic Museum to the "Lost Hut".
The goal of HIGHLANDER Georgia is to popularize hiking as a healthy lifestyle, promote eco-friendly and sustainable development-oriented events in the region, as well as present the unique tourist potential of Georgia to the international market and encourage the growth of the number of tourist flow to the country.
HIGHLANDER GEORGIA will be held as part of the GRETA project with the support of the European Union, Sweden and Austria.
The partners of the project are the Georgian National Tourism Administration, the City Hall of the Municipality of Mestia and the Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti Destination Management Organization, "Shanland" (founded with the support of the European Union, Sweden and Austria, within the framework of the GRETA project), the International Foundation for Sports, Tourism and Youth, TBC Bank, "Geoland", multifunctional workspace, "Terminal", while the social media partner is "Spend 4 Seasons in Georgia".
