In January-July 2023, the export of honey from Georgia decreased three times from 116 tons to 41.2 tons. Only 1 ton of honey was sold in July.
As for the export price indicators, in the 7th month of 2022, Georgia received 490.03 thousand US dollars from the export of natural honey, and in the current year - 389.7 thousand US dollars.
The list of the top 5 countries where Georgia exported the largest volume of products this year is as follows:
The Czech Republic - 6 tons worth 126.1 thousand USD
France - 20.4 tons worth 116 thousand USD
Lebanon - 3.7 tons worth 51.4 thousand USD
The USA - 2.4 tons for 17.9 thousand USD
Canada - 2.6 tons for 17.7 thousand USD
The chairman of the Georgian Beekeepers' Association, Aleko Papava, explained that the reason for the decrease in the export volume is the shortage of the EU-standard honey in the Georgian market. The demand for Georgian honey of the appropriate quality exceeds the supply.
