As EastFruit analysts say, this year, a total of 320 tons of apples were exported from the country, which is significantly lower than the figure of this period of the previous two years. For example, last year, three times more apples were exported in September.
It should be noted that the prices have practically not changed - the price of one kilogram is still 0.60 US dollars. However, the devaluation of the dollar against the GEL caused a 9% decrease in export prices. 10% inflation in Georgia further reduced the purchasing power of apple export earnings.
Low volume of exports is mainly due to low demand in the current period. The Georgian harvest and, accordingly, supply to the market will reach its peak in late October. In addition, farmers will try not to sell high-quality apples during periods of high supply. Storage issues are said to have eased this season due to the opening of more storage space.
