Ex-Tbilisi Mayor Niko Lekishvili dies at 77

The former Tbilisi Mayor Niko Lekishvili has passed away at the age of 77.
Throughout his career, Lekishvili held various prominent positions. He served as Deputy Prime Minister from 1993 to 1995 and as State Minister from 1990 to 1991. Additionally, he was a member of the Supreme Council and represented the electoral bloc of the Georgian United Communist Party.
Lekishvili was a signatory to the Act on the Restoration of Georgia’s Independence on April 9, 1991. He also served as a Member of Parliament in the Third, Fifth, and Sixth Convocations. In recognition of his contributions, he was awarded the title of Tbilisi Honorary Citizen in 2019.
