"The Black Sea region is considered not only high-risk, but also vital for the cargo flow processes," - Irakli Danelia, the Head of Business Development of Maersk Sealand in the Black Sea Region, said.
"The Black Sea region is becoming more and more active in the Georgian, Bulgarian and Romanian directions, due to the fact that Russian ports are less interesting for large shipping lines and operators cannot physically enter Ukrainian ports because of the war. This has a certain positive effect, however, it is important to maintain this effect in the long term. For this, a combination of actions from both the government and the private sector should be implemented," – Danelia said.
In his opinion, it is necessary to have a high level of reliability when using the middle corridor.
"Until now, there were the world orators, the so-called cargo owners, who assessed their cargo handling in the Black Sea on a high-risk scale. The reason for this was incorrect information, namely that the war between Russia and Ukraine and the transportation of goods to the Black Sea were associated with certain dangers, which is not true. It is good that this misinformation was soon eliminated and everyone understood that the Black Sea region is not only a high-risk, but also vital to fulfill the important cargo flows that are formed in the Black Sea countries and, at the same time, to maintain the connection of the so-called landlocked countries of Central Asia with the rest of the world. This connection is fully possible through the so-called middle corridor, where Georgia plays the most important role", - Irakli Danelia said.
