The idea for the documentary "Gia Kancheli: I Didn't Like Clarinet" (2020) emerged after TV journalist Gregory Antimony had recorded a long interview with Kancheli. The film shooting lasted 2.5 years and took place in different countries of the world, including Georgia.
The protagonist of the film became clarinetist Julian Milkis, a friend of Kancheli. In the film, the composer takes him on an "excursion" to his apartment in Tbilisi, tells life stories and shares creative thoughts with him.
Gia Kancheli himself wanted to show the film to Canadian film director Olga Antimony in the following order - first a film screening, then a concert. This is how the event in memory of the composer will be held.
The film will be screened in Russia for the first time, with Julian Milkis and prominent pianist Polina Osetinskaya, performing in the concert part of the program - they will perform 18 miniatures of Kancheli on the clarinet and piano.
